Learning support

Sunshine Learning Support

Helping every learner take a full part in school life and grow with confidence.

Our approach

Every learner, every way of learning

The Sunshine Section is Project Canaan Academy’s learning support programme. It exists so that every learner, whatever the way they learn, can take a full part in school life and keep growing with confidence.

Who Sunshine supports

Support shaped around each learner

Some learners need extra time, a different approach or more focused attention to reach their potential. Sunshine works with learners whose needs are identified through everyday teaching, classroom assessment and conversations with their families.

Extra time

Time to understand new ideas, practise new skills and show what they know, without feeling rushed.

A different approach

Teaching that adapts to how each learner understands best, so new ideas make sense.

Focused attention

Closer attention from adults who know each learner’s goals and celebrate their progress.

How support works

Growing with confidence, step by step

Support is planned, shared and reviewed, so it keeps pace with each learner as they grow.

  1. Small groups and one-to-one

Focused support alongside classroom learning, in small groups or individually.

  2. A plan for each learner

Learning plans shaped around each learner’s strengths as well as their needs.

  3. One team around the child

Sunshine staff, class teachers and parents work closely together.

  4. Reviewed as learners grow

Progress is reviewed regularly, so support changes as the learner grows.

Working with families

Parents are partners

Parents are partners in their child’s learning. If you think your child may benefit from learning support, we would love to talk with you.
